2010 Employee of the Year
Award Winner
Helping
Connect People to Work
Lakeview Center Vocational Services : Success Story
Jonathan Hurley works for the Gulf Coast Enterprise (GCE) contract at Naval Station Newport in Newport, Rhode Island. He was the unanimous
choice for the Employee of the Year
award that was announced by GCE
President Rich Gilmartin during
the 2011 Leadership Conference in
January.
Hurley was nominated for the honor
by his contract's project manager,
Rodney Novak. "The No. 1 thing about Jon is his infectious
smile and his ability to make everyone feel good at work,"
Novak said. "He's a go-to guy. If I need something done
right away, that's who I go to."
When Hurley finishes his assigned tasks, he always asks
what else needs to be done, and then he does it. Managers
and supervisors rely on him to help train new employees.
The food services operation at Naval Station Newport is fastpaced
and demanding. Three times a day, every day, it serves
a thousand people in just two hours. Hurley is a huge asset to
that operation, Novak said.
Having recently celebrated his 34th birthday, Hurley is
thinking about his future. His next goal is to become a
supervisor. Hurley said, "I always say to people, 'When you
work hard, it will come your way.'"
